Brussels: Spectator Sports
The Smallest World-City
Brussels is not a city known for its spectator sports. Sports lovers should head to the Maison du Football to catch the local team FC Anderlecht in action. European matches are also held here. Brussels also boasts an impressive horse racing scene with three tracks in the Brussels area: Boitsfort, Groenendaal, and Sterrebeek. The annual Memorial Van Damme sports meet on 26 August in the Roi Baudoin stadium is one of Europe's largest athletics events. There can also be any number of cycling events in the city as cycling is Belgium's national sport.
