A Country of Superb Variations
Few tourists come to Bulgaria for the shops, but there are some great souvenirs, and real bargains available, if you want to do a spot of shopping in Bulgaria during your holiday. Sofia has a few huge shopping malls housing the usual international chains, but perhaps more interesting to visitors are the street markets where you can buy local produce, handcrafts and souvenirs such as reproduction icons and traditional lacework. Souvenir shops are great places to browse for traditional crafts including carpets, woodcarvings and pottery. The main tourist destinations in the coast, like Nesebar and Sozopol, are also good places to shop for reasonably priced souvenirs.
