Bulgaria: When to go
A Country of Superb Variations
The most popular time to visit Bulgaria is in the summer months. Between June and August, the weather is hot and sunny, and the beach resorts are in full swing. However, they are also very busy at this time, so you will need to book ahead if you want to stay at this time. During these months, fewer people stay in Sofia, which can be a little stifling, and some hotels will offer discounts in July and August. Summer is a great time to go hiking in the countryside, too, and for attending some of the bigger Bulgarian festivals. April, May and September are also excellent times to visit Bulgaria. The weather will be cooler, there will be fewer tourists, and low-season rates will still apply at many hotels and guesthouses. For winter sports in Bulgaria, the period from December to March is the ideal time to come.
