Canary Islands: Hiking Activity Holiday
More than simply Sun, Sea and Sand
Whereas the more developed of the Canary Islands are popular for beach holidays, the smaller and less touristy islands of La Palma and La Gomera are ideal for a Canary Islands hiking holiday. La Palma, for example, is a wonderful place where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of this friendly, green island. La Palma is an island of contrasts, with mountains and beaches, volcanoes and forests. Both summer and winter in the Canary Islands are ideal for sun, walking and hiking holidays or just to really get away from it all. There are hotels on the coast and many self-catering cottages inland if you prefer to get away from it all. Should you choose Gran Canaria for your Canary islands hiking holiday destination, it has some stunning historic towns and villages around the interior that you can visit or stay in. These include Teror, Arucus, Moya, Artenara, Tejeda, San Bartolome de Tirajana and Santa Lucia. Gran Canaria's landscape, like Fuerteventura's, is marked by volcanic action with it's many fertile valleys and ravines. But unlike La Palma, volcanoes here are dormant.
