Caribbean: Fishing

Fun in da Sun wit lots'a Rum!

The Caribbean is one of the best fishing destinations in the world. The crystal-clear, sparkling water that surrounds the Caribbean islands draws onlookers of every kind. The waters that surround the Caribbean islands are home to several types of fishing because of the vast differences in the underwater landscapes of the region. Some fish favour the shallow island edges, while along the edges of some volcanic islands you may see the bright fish of the coral reefs that have grown over centuries. Saltwater flyfishing for bonefish is popular as is deep-sea fishing for bluefish, swordfish, shark, marlin, and other billfish. These waters have also seen some big catches: many of the International Game Fishing Association's world records were registered here. Anglers will also find barracuda, bonefish, kingfish, tarpon, amberjack, grouper, and snapper closer to shore. Many islands hold local fishing tournaments that add to the excitement.
