Colombia: Scuba Diving Activity Holiday
Colombia is home to an extensive coastline with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, allowing for an excellent scuba diving holiday in Colombia. Colombia is developing into one of South America's best scuba diving destinations. Malpelo Island (Pacific) is well known as one of the top diving destinations in the world and there's also excellent diving in the Carribean. The islands of San Andres and Providencia are popular locations for a scuba diving holiday in Colombia. On the mainland of Colombia, Santa Marta and Taganga are popular for their diving as well. Taganga has become a hot spot in which to explore these nether regions. Presently, about a half-dozen dive shops operate out of this small village, many offering courses that range from basic to dive master levels. You can choose daytime diving excursions, fun dives or night dives from more than 30 different sites. One outfitter even does scuba safaris to more distant locales, including Cabo de la Vela in the Guajira. In the Pacific Ocean, a scuba diving holiday in Colombia takes divers to the Malpelo Island, which is usually for the more experienced and adventurous divers. Malpelo Island offers cold water diving in a very rich marine environment where divers will be diving with and assortment of marine creatures including hammerhead and whale sharks. Malpelo Island is 36 hours by boat from the port town of Buernaventura.
