Copenhagen: Spectator Sports

The Paris of the North

Copenhagen is not a spectator sport city per se but it does have some options. Football (soccer) is the most popular sport. FC Kobenhavn plays at Parken stadium, a little north of the old town, at Oster Alle 50. Matches in the Danish Premier League usually take place Sunday at 3 pm (season runs August-May) with occasional national games and international club games on Wednesday or Thursday. Guided tours of the stadium are available.

Gymnastics is Denmark’s second most popular sport. Copenhagen hosts gymnastic events at its clubs and sports centres throughout the city and as you might expect fans take a keen interest in cycling events as well. Copenhagen also has teams in ice hockey, basketball, cricket, and rugby. Yachting, however, is the sport that has won more medals for Denmark than any other sport.
