The New Riviera
The winds sweeping up and down Croatia's coast have created ideal conditions for windsurfing and the sport has been growing in popularity for the last 20 years. Beginners as well as advanced windsurfers can find locations that are suitable for their needs to make the best out of their surfing holiday in Croatia. From Istria in the north to Dalmatia in the south, the coastline is dotted with wonderful windsurfing locations. Most of them have windsurfing schools. If you've never hit the waves before, you'll want to take a course. There are many windsurfing destinations in Croatia, such as Premantura Peninsula in Istria, Savudrija in Istria, Preluk in Kvarner, Viganj on the Peljesac peninsula or Baska on Krk Island.
There are really only two places to go in Croatia for serious windsurfers. The most popular is Bol on the island of Brac. which has calm waters and which provides the right kind of winds for wind surfers. Second-best is the Kuciste-Viganj area just west of Orebic, which occupies a similar position on the Peljesac channel dividing the mainland from Korcula. Whichever you choose, you'll find plenty of people renting out gear (boards €27-€34 per day) and offering courses (about €80 for 8hr tuition).
