Fuerteventura: Suggested Itinerary

White beaches, volcanic mountains, palm trees and goats (lots of goats!)

Day 1: Settle down in your accommodation before deciding what to do today, though remember that the finest beaches are in the south of the island, where the endless stretches of sand resemble the Caribbean rather than the Canaries. Morro Jable has a spectacular wide arc of sand, an excellent water sports centre and a long promenade, making this a good choice to spend your lazy afternoon.

Day 2: Take a trip to Betancuria today. If you are staying towards the south of the island, it may take you a little longer to get there as it’s on the western coast towards the centre. Still it is a visit that you won’t regret with its rare verdant green and evocative valley location.

Day 3: Be a culture-vulture and check out the cutting-edge modern art at La Oliva’s Casa de Los Coroneles, a distinguished start to the day. Spend the afternoon at Isla de Lobos, one of the best surfing spots in the area. End the day by dining on catch-of-the-day seafood while gazing over the waves at Corralejo.

Day 4: Spend the day in the tourist-haven of Corralejo. Here you will find beautiful beaches, cool waves and all the night and day life that you could possibly wish for. What more could you want?

Day 5: Spend your final day in Corralejo by kicking off your shoes and doing cartwheels in the soft, powdery sand at the Parque Natural de Corralejo. Then head down south to Playa de Sotavento de Jandia in the south side, possibly the best beach around to enjoy a spot of windsurfing.

Day 6: Explore the beautiful southern beaches, the best on offer in this region. Costa Calma and Caleta de Fuste are two brilliant family beaches with golden sands, shallow waters and unique activities like camel riding.

Day 7: You’ll probably want to stay here longer as it’s a great place for both the kids and the adults to hang out. If you can nick another day in the sun than best of luck to you, though for all the mere mortals its home from Puerto del Rosario airport.
