If you’re backpacking around Spain, make Granada a definite stop on your backpacking trail. Granada has tons of grand architecture, a hip and vibrant nightlife, and for an added bonus, it’s a fairly cheap city for backpackers to spend to time. Most budget accommodation in Granada is in the heart of the city centre and it ranges from the cool & funky to the cheap and cheerful. Good, cheap hotels in Grenada gets snapped up fast so try to arrive before midday to avoid missing out. If you’re staying for a few days and want to see all the main sights, you may save money with the ‘Bono Turistico’ ticket. For around 30 Euros, this gives you access to the Alhambra and the vast majority of Granada’s other main sights. You also get one day on Granada’s sight seeing bus plus 9 rides on Granada’s public buses. When it comes to food, Granada has a treat in store for Backpackers. It’s customary in Granada for tapas to be served free with drinks in bars so eating out in Granada doesn’t have to put a big dent in your bank account. Due to an enormous student population, Granada’s nightlife is kicking and inexpensive, so it’s well worth getting out and about to check out Granada’s happening bar scene. And be sure to check out Granada’s lively flamenco scene. Most flamenco shows happen in the gypsy district of Sacromonte and some of them can be expensive and very touristy. Shop around to find one that suits your budget and your expectations.
