Fishing is much sought after recreational activity in Greece. For sport fishing in a boat a fishing license is required which are issued by local port authorities for €26 and is valid for 2 years. Non-European Union foreigners cannot apply for a fishing license. Fishing from the shore does not require a license and is open to everyone. Epirus, in northwestern Greece offers exceptional fly fishing. The freestone mountain streams as well as limestone waters contain rich insect life and large numbers of trout. Crete is another popular fishing destination. You can fish from the harbor or by rocks on the sea, or you can accompany fishermen on sea. Fishing excursions are popular and you can book yourself onto an excursion anytime during the year.
