Greece is home to perhaps the world’s richest and most ancient history dating back to the 3rd millennium BC! The history of Greece tells of how the different Greek tribes came about, the areas they ruled in and the various civilizations born during those periods. With over 4 civilizations- the Helladic, Cycladic, Minoan and Mycenaean, the various ages like the Greek dark ages, Archaic Greece, Classical Greece, Hellenistic Greece and Roman Greece, the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire , the history of Greece was all about the successions of various invasions and their dominations. The classical period of Greek history between the 6th and 4th centuries BC are most renowned for it was during this period that some of the world’s greatest philosophers and mathematicians lived. Evidence of Greek’s long and turbulent history can be seen all over the country and its islands with numerous archaeological sites, museums and collections of artifacts, from the Paleolithic period to the Roman era. The churches, monasteries, castles and other monuments lay witness to the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires.
The history of Greece is truly spectacular and has had such an influence on the rest of the world in terms of philosophy, arts, science, literature, languages and expressions.
