Guam: Canoeing

Micronesia's most populous island

Guam Canoeing

The ancient, indigenous Chamorro of Guam were renowned for their fast sailing techniques and efficient canoe construction. It is no surprise, therefore, that canoeing in Guam can be a great way to sample the beautiful coastline. Many beaches offer sea canoe hire, and it is a popular way for families to spend the afternoon. Hiring a canoe is not expensive, and there are plenty of locations around the island where canoeing is suitable depending on the tide. Always make sure to canoe around a supervised beach, and to take precautions not to go too far out to sea. Canoeing in Guam is likely to have seen a boost in popularity recently, following the success of Sean Pangelinan, who represented Guam at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
