Helsinki: Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Finland’s capital, settle down in your hotel and then head out for a 2-hour guided tour of the city, taking in such sights as Market Square, Presidential Palace and Upsenski Cathedral. Return to your hotel for dinner.

Day 2: Take a full-day’s excursion to Suomenlinna. The "Gibraltar of the North" was once the greatest sea fortress in the Baltic, built by the Swedish in the mid-1700s at great expense to protect their eastern flank. Today's Suomenlinna is still living in its own time with only old buildings, few cars, fewer than a thousand inhabitants and lots of old fortifications, catacombs and cast iron cannons.

Day 3: Make sure you visit the Sea Life Centre in Helsinki for your final day here. Pick up those souvenirs in Aleksanterinkatu, see some museums like Arteneum Art Museum, Helsinki City Museum or Huereka Science Centre. For some fun, visit either Flamingo Spa Waterpark & Wellness (also includes a shopping centre), the weirdest mini-golf course at Hohtogolf West Coast or Finland’s oldest theme park, Linnanmäki.

Day 4: If you missed out on unusual gifts, Hakaniemin has both an open-air market and a market hall, so this might be the place to head to. If you get chance, check out an underground Finnish record store, before heading home.
