Kenya: Horse Riding

Mountains, deserts, colourful tribal culture, beaches, coral reefs and wildlife

There is an active riding community in Nairobi and treks are available from the suburb of Karen to the Rift Valley, and horseback safaris are also possible on the perimeter of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. In the Central Highlands, morning rides through the bush can be experienced at the Mt Kenya Game Ranch in Nanyuki and at the nearby Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Riding is the best way to get close to the wildlife as they don’t recognise your smell on horseback. Some of the coastal resorts also offer horse riding among their activities, in particular Hemingways Resort at Watamu on the north coast.
