Kuala Lumpur: Costs
Easier to negotiate than Bangkok, less cosmopolitan than Singapore and more eclectic than Hanoi
Kuala Lumpur is relatively not an expensive place to visit. In fact, it has the reputation for being one of the world’s cheapest places to experience five star luxury. A 3 star hotel would start from RM80 though prices do vary according to the season and events happening in the city. Food and drinks in Kuala Lumpur are cheap. Expect to pay as little as RM10 for a meal in a food centre to RM30 in a restaurant. Taxis in Kuala Lumpur are metered and the starting rate for a standard taxi is RM2 for the first kilometre and 10sen for each additional 200 metres hence if you're a group of four, it's cheaper to get a taxi than the Light Rail. The budget fare from the airport to Kuala Lumpur city centre on the Airport Limo service would cost around RM70.
