Maldives: Geography

The Indian Ocean's idyllic paradise

Maldives Geography

The geography of the Maldives can generally be described as flat, and with most of the islands being on average only a metre and a half above sea level, the Maldives have the record of being the lowest lying country in the world. Each island of the Maldives is surrounded by its own coral reef teeming with sea life. Vegetation becomes more lush towards the islands interior offering tropical plants and trees.

The Maldives are situated in the warm Indian Ocean, around 435 miles south west of Sri Lanka.
