A Microcosm of the Mediterranean
It is often said that there are not that many sandy beaches in Malta. But that is not necessarily true. The islands of Malta and Gozo actually do have a number of beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, snorkeling and swimming. Sandy beaches tend to be more popular, especially if you are travelling to Malta with children, but there are also places where you can go swimming off the rocks and many would argue that these are even better than sandy beaches. However, if you wish to travel to one of the best sandy beaches on the Mediterranean, look no further than Mellieha Bay in Malta. As with many of Malta's beaches, it can become very busy in summer, especially during the months of June to September on the weekends. But there are some very good facilities for bathers on these beaches in Malta including snack bars and cafes. You will also find water sports facilities where you can hire a pedalo, try parasailing or swim out to a large floating play area. It is ideal for families and there are many sun beds and umbrellas available for rent. If you are looking for a more private beach you will have to do a little exploring.
