Malta: Family Holiday
A Microcosm of the Mediterranean
Malta may not be the first place that springs to mind for a family holiday, but do not dismiss the island in favour of its Spanish counterparts, as it can be a great place for a family holiday. Malta, like most Mediterranean cultures, is very child friendly and the Maltese people love children. The year-round good weather and relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere make Malta a good destination for a family holiday. At less than four hours flight from the UK, it is near enough for the journey to be bearable. An essential ingredient of most family holidays is a beach, and Malta's beaches are easy to get to. Most offer safe swimming, and of course, the majority of hotels will have an outdoor pool as well. One of the best sandy beaches with great paddling and swimming for children is at Mellieha Bay towards the north of the island. During the summer, most resorts hire dinghies and snorkelling gear with which to discover the underwater world. Additionally, children will love visiting the Mediterraneo Marine Park at Bahar ic-Caghaq - it is one of the most popular family attractions as you can swim with dolphins and get close up to sea lions at a reasonable price. However, numbers are restricted so this popular attraction needs to be pre-booked. The adjacent Splash and Fun waterpark which has four water slides and a playground will also prove popular with your children during your family holiday to Malta.
