A Microcosm of the Mediterranean
Crime against tourists in Malta is rare although robberies, handbag snatching, pick-pocketing and theft from parked cars can occur. Such criminals focus on areas and establishments frequented by tourists. Caution is particularly urged in the Paceville nightclub area, where excessive drinking and poor crowd control have led to instances of violent behavior. Poverty, homelessness, and panhandling are almost non-existent in Malta. As with any holiday to a foreign country, you should safeguard passports, money and other valuables; for example by using hotel safety deposit boxes. Overall Malta is a safe place to visit and it remains largely free of terrorist incidents. No indigenous terrorist or extremist groups are known to be active in Malta.
