A Microcosm of the Mediterranean
The geography of Malta is dominated by water. Malta is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is approximately 93 kilometres south of Sicily and Italy. And it is approximately 300 km north of Africa. Only the three largest islands in the nation – Malta, Gozo and Comino – are inhabited. The other (uninhabited) islands are Cominotto, Filfla and the St.Paul's Islands. Malta has numerous bays along the indented coastline of the islands which provide good harbours. The landscape of the islands in Malta is characterised by low hills with terraced fields.
