Mexico: Skiing - Snow Boarding
A land of contrasts straddling temperate and tropical zones
Mexico has a very few locations that provide ski mountaineering opportunities. There are two main volcanoes in the country that have excellent ascents, provided you are there at the right time of the year. Orizaba will make the best ski ascent, with over 600m of steep descent on the summit glacier, and a reasonably short hike to get there from the road end. Another option would be the Ayoloco glacier route on Ixtacihuatl, another nice steep slope that holds snow well in the wet season. The best time to go on a skiing holiday in Mexico is towards the end of the wet season, between the months of October and November where the snow conditions are perfect.
