Mexico: Whale Watching

A land of contrasts straddling temperate and tropical zones

The best month for whale watching in Mexico is from November to March where you will get to witness the most magnificent humpback whales blow, sound, and mate and calve in their natural habitat. Puerto Vallarta and the Bay of Banderas are renowned for whale watching in Mexico. Cabo San Lucas at the Yucatan Peninsula's southern tip is a good spot to observe passing whales. Bahia Magdalena is a center for gray whale observation while humpbacks and blues breed in the Sea of Cortez. Humpback whales visit the Banderas Bay every year in their search for warmer waters in the winter. Visitors can enjoy whale watching right from the beach, or take a boat tour.
