New York: Backpacking
We love NYC!
With New York having one of the best public transportation systems in the United States, the city is great for a backpacking holiday. The city is designed as a walking city so backpackers are easily able to spend a backpacking holiday full of sights and activities with little to no travel cost. There are many hostels in many neighbourhoods around the city allowing backpackers to never have to travel far from lodgings.
This also allows for consistent availability of hostel accommodation at competitive rates with dorm rooms as low as $25 and private rooms as low as $40. MetroCards can be purchased where bus and subway rides are only $2 and run continuously throughout the day and night. Cafes, bars, and grocery markets are never too far from hostels making life easy for the backpacker. During summer months, there are many free concerts, plays, performances, and events throughout the city’s theatres, parks, and museums. Backpackers are able to take advantage of many inexpensive or free venues making their backpacking holiday in New York one to always remember.
