New York: Camping
We love NYC!
Although New York State is great for a camping holiday and there are a number of campgrounds and camp sites within an hour’s drive from the city, New York is not initially thought of as the perfect camping holiday. However, big cities can be deceiving. During the months of July and August on Friday and Saturday nights, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation invites campers to enjoy a camping experience for free in any one of the city parks in the five boroughs. Campers will enjoy a cook out, a variety of evening activities such as stargazing and night hikes, sleep under the stars, and then awake to the sound of birds chirping. Reservations are required and participating parks include Central Park, Pelham Bay Park, Marine Park, Prospect Park, Blue Heron Park, and more.
