New Zealand: Skiing - Snow Boarding
Land of the Long White Cloud
New Zealand is a great destination for skiing during the northern hemisphere summer, with the New Zealand ski season running from June to September. There are ski resorts on both North and South Island. The Whakapapa Ski Area and Turoa Ski Resort, on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park on North Island, are the main ski resorts in New Zealand, and can get very crowded at the height of the season. On South Island, the Mount Cook region, and Mount Hutt,, in the foothills of the Southern Alps in Canterbury, is one of the best skiing destinations in New Zealand, while other options include downhill skiing at Queenstown and cross country skiing near Wanaka.
