Nice: Food and Drink
Famous for postcard perfect sea and sand, Nice is renowned for its culinary delights. Nice caters to all tastes and budgets from Michelin-starred restaurants to fast food creperies in the Old Town. Famous for its Southeast French cuisine; specialities in Nice also take inspiration from Spanish and Italian traditions. Most dishes are based on vegetables, cheese, herbs and olive oil. The Old Town provides a wide choice of eateries and some of the cities best restaurants can be found on the Promenade de Anglais. With views of the sea it is best to book in advance.
Nice is also home to delicious fish dishes, try Boccaccio or Coco Beach. Local specialities include "socca" a chickpea flat bread, a tuna fish sandwich called "Pan Bagnat" as well as the well known Salade Nicoise (made with tuna) and Soupe de Poisson, a fish aoup, made with chili aioli, croutons, and grated cheese), and Tourtes aux Blettes (sweet tarts made with Savoy cabbage, raisins, nuts, and powdered sugar). Lunch in Nice is generally served early (noon) as opposed to dinner which is served later (7:30/8 pm). For an evening of wine, try Le Pub Opera.
