A country with new world cuisine, a bustling nightlife and a haunting past
Situated in the centre of Europe, Poland is bordered by Germany to the west, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine to the east and Slovakia and the Czech Republic to the south. Baltic Sea stretches for some 330 miles along Poland's northern border. The south and south-west of the country is dominated by jagged mountain peaks and forest areas. The north on the other hand is a beautiful lakeland area with over 4,000 lakes, many connected by canals. Forests and marshes abound and and the country is intersected by many rives, the longest of which, the Vistula, is a national treasure running from the Tatra mountains, through the country to the Baltic Sea, taking in the cities of Krakow and Warsaw on the way.
