Prague: History

The Seductive Virgin City of Europe

Prague History

The history of Prague in one word is splendiferous; with its sweet and sad moments. A journey into time is sure to spellbound.

Though this city has basked in the warm glow of prosperity and success under the benevolent leadership of King Charles IV and President Masaryk, she also was dealt crushing blows that sent her scampering back to oblivion by the tyrannical regime of Jan Hus and the fascist legion he headed called the Protestant Hussites, by the assaults of the blood-thirsty Nazis during WWII and by the suffocating grip of the Russians during the Cold War of 1971. But Prague’s resilient soul made her rise like the Phoenix from the ashes.

In 1989, she brought down with a flourish the Velvet Curtain while she destroyed the Iron Curtain that had stifled her freedom and identity for close to two decades. And then she triumphantly unveiled her hidden wealth of Bohemian treasures and sent out an invitation to the rest of the world. As they say, the rest is History!
