Queenstown Geography

Snow capped mountains, rugged hills, wild rivers, and majestic lakes make up the landscape of the Queenstown area. Queenstown itself is built around an inlet of a large S shaped lake called Lake Wakitipu which stretches for 80 kilometres and is key to the town’s popularity as a major tourist destination. Another important element of Queenstown’s geography is the close proximity of the Southern Alps which provide visitors to Queenstown with a wealth of activities all year round.
