Queenstown: When to go
The Adventure City
Queenstown has four distinct seasons and each brings a different vibe (and type of tourist) to the town. The ski season in Queenstown runs from June to October and during these months Queenstown is a hive of activity as skiers and snowboarders from around the world descend on the town and the plentiful nearby slopes. Summer in Queenstown officially runs from the 1st of December to the 28 of February.
In reality, the weather can be hot, dry, and sunny for a good month or two either side of the official summer dates. Obviously, this is a popular time for tourism and there’s a real buzz in the town over the summer months – particularly over the Christmas/New Year period when many kiwis roll into town on their annual holidays. Summer in Queenstown is the best time to hit the hiking trails and experience the many outdoor activities on offer around Queenstown. Spring and autumn in Queenstown are cooler and more unpredictable weather wise, but they can still be very pleasant times to visit and the crowds are smaller. There are also good deals to be found on accommodation during spring and autumn.
