South Africa: Fishing
A World in One Country
Fishing in South Africa
The confluence of the warm Indian and cooler Atlantic east of the Cape Peninsula, brings one of the highest concentrations of game fish in the world, including longfin, tunny and marlin. Fishing in South Africa is a well established South African activity and the coasts yield up to 250 species caught through rock, bay or surf angling. Inland you’ll find numerous rivers and farms stocked with freshwater fish, while trout fishing is enormously popular in Mpumalanga, the northern sections of the Eastern Cape and the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
For a real challenge, why not try saltwater fly-fishing. It's a bit gear-intensive, and does take some time to learn the relevant skills, but there is nothing that beats standing knee-deep in the waves, watching the rising sun reflecting off your tightly looped line as you cast and cast again into the foamy breakers. Fishing in South Africa is definitely a must do.
