The population of Tahiti is 178,000, while French and Tahitian are the two official languages spoken. Tahitians’ are largely Polynesian with a smaller percentage of Chinese and French citizens. A quarter of Tahiti’s GDP is generated from tourism and the remainder is largely from pearl farming and commercial fishing. France, Japan and the USA are the chief importers of Tahitian goods. The earnings are low in Tahiti, as their GDP is ranked 149th in the world.
