Vancouver: Spectator Sports

A multicultural metropolis with snowcapped crags, city-hugging beaches and waterfront forests

Vancouver Spectator Sports

If you’re a spectator sports fan, Vancouver has a good range of sports and teams to go and watch. As a true Canadian city, there is of course an Ice Hockey team, the Vancouver Canucks. The hockey season runs from the middle of September to the middle of April, and if you’re in Vancouver in that time, you should be able to go along to GM Place to catch a game.

Of course, the other major Canadian spectator sport is Lacrosse. The Vancouver Ravens are the city’s National Lacrosse League team, playing at GM Place in the ice Hockey off season (November to the end of March).
Then there’s Vancouver’s Canadian Football Team, the BC Lions. The Lions play at BC Place, during a season that runs from June to October, (this can be longer if the team makes it into the playoffs).

Soccer is also a popular spectator sport in Vancouver, and the Whitecaps, Vancouver’s professional soccer team, play to big crowds at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby. Soccer season runs From May to October - the opposite of the UK football season.

Finally, it’s always worth catching the Vancouver Canadians playing baseball at the Nat Bailey stadium, an historic minor league ballpark near Queen Elizabeth Park. It’s a summer sport, with games played from June to September.
