A multicultural metropolis with snowcapped crags, city-hugging beaches and waterfront forests
Canada is in general one of the safest countries in the world, although of course, as with all urban environments Vancouver suffers from its fair share of crime. Compared to most US cities, for example, crime in Vancouver is well below average. By far the biggest crime threat in Vancouver is property crime. This is mostly linked to the city’s homeless and drug user population, both growing problems for Vancouver. The majority of this crime is non-violent involving stealing from cars and shoplifting.
However, tourists would be well advised to adopt normal measures for keeping safe in any major city: keep valuables out of sight (both on themselves and in cars) and be cautious at when walking at night. Don’t venture into poorly lit areas at night and be vigilant of your surroundings on public transport.
