Vancouver: Suggested Itinerary
A multicultural metropolis with snowcapped crags, city-hugging beaches and waterfront forests
Day 1: Settle down into your accommodation and see how much time you have.If you have four hours of daylight, head out on a tour of Vancouver City and Granville Island, either by yourself or with the guides. This will take in most of the famous sites, including Stanley Park, Chinatown, Gastown, Shaughnessy, English Bay, and Queen Elizabeth Park. Stop at Granville Island and marvel at the selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, pastries, breads and gourmet fare at the Public Market. Shop for unique souvenirs like handmade paper or glass beads. Visit one of the many artisans that rent studio space on the island. Grab a snack from inside the market and sit on the dock, feed the seagulls or watch any number of street performers--from musicians to magicians.
Day 2: If you like fishing, you can fish for some of the finest salmon in the world in Vancouver. Take in the spectacular scenery and reel in your catch of the day on a fully equipped fishing vessel. You can pickup a suitable vessel from a number of marinas conveniently located downtown and throughout the city. If you fancy getting on the water without the grizzly sport, get back to nature with some ocean kayaking. Swim with the sea lions, paddle along Vancouver's coastline and experience nature from a different perspective. Pack a lunch and glide along the water at your own pace or hire a guide to show you the way.
Day 3: If you’re into adventure, you simply have to go rafting. It’s best to go with a tour as everything is supplied, including lunch, so it’s just easier than hiring and the like, unless you’re an experienced rafter of course. The white rapids of the Chilliwack, the Elaho-Squamish, and the Thompson rivers are calling your name. Experience the adrenaline rush of white water rafting in British Columbia under the supervision of trained guides. All trips include a stop at a scenic location for a hearty lunch.
Day 4: It’s best to spend at least 5 days in Vancouver, just so that you have time to take advantage of the surroundings. Only 30 minutes from Vancouver, you find yourself entering a magical world of giant Douglas firs wrapped in blankets of soft green moss. Breathe in the cool, clean mystery of the West Coast rainforest. You don't need to be an experienced hiker to discover the forests unspoiled beauty. Guided tours take you through the landscape. Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of film. If you’re not into natural wonders, Vancouver is famous for its stellar golf venues and there are a multitude of courses located within the city or within a one-hour drive from downtown.
