Venezuela: Fishing

South America's Hidden Gem

La Guaira is the port near to Caracas, some 25 kilometres from the city centre. If you want to try deep sea fishing while in Caracas you can go on a fishing excursion from La Guaira. During the winter (January to March) the fishing for yellow fin tuna off the coast of Caracas is good. In the spring you’ll find marlin, sailfish and swordfish while deep sea fishing near Caracas. Smaller game fish include Wahoo, barracuda, bonito and Dorado are available year round. Catch-and-release is standard practice when fishing off the coast of Caracas. If you are on Isla Margarita you can also go on a catered deep sea fishing trip - see www.casatrudel.com for more information. If fly fish is more your game there is some good saltwater fly fishing and bone fishing in Venezuela on the island of Los Roques where you can fish in the shallow coastal waters of these islands.
