South America's Hidden Gem
The cost of living in Caracas is the highest in Latin America, making it one of the most expensive cities in the world. For holidaymakers this means that the cost of a decent hotel in a good area of town will be several hundred Dollars a night. Eating out can also be dear with prices at some of the better restaurant running at around $50 per person excluding drinks and tips. Expect to pay around $20 – $30 for a meal in a café. Transportation can also mount up as you may find yourself using taxis to get around. However, with a single journey on the metro costing just BsF0.50 ($.25) – using this form of public transport will lighten the load on your purse in Caracas, as well as beat the choked-up traffic above ground. Venezuela too, is fairly expensive now that there is a fixed official exchange rate with the Dollar. However, popular tourist destinations in Venezuela should be less expensive than the capital.
