Geographical location of Caracas and Venezuela
Caracas is in northern Venezuela in the Caracas Valley which is part of the Cordillera de la Costa mountain range. It is more than 800 meters above sea level. Caracas is the capitol of Venezuela. Venezuela is in South America and its northern border is touches the Caribbean Sea (with 3,000 kilometres of coastline). Its neighbours are Columbia to the west, Guyana to the east and Brazil to the south.

Although downtown Caracas is only around 25 kilometres from the Caribbean Sea (as the bird flies) it is cut off from the coast by a 2,000 meter high mountain range. Caracas is surrounded by a steep mountain valley. Venezuela’s northern border is the Caribbean Sea (with 3,000 kilometres of coastline). Its neighbours are Columbia to the west, Guyana to the east and Brazil to the south.

Currency used in Caracas and Venezuela
The currency used in Venezuela is now the new Bolívar fuerte (introduced January 1st, 2008). The Venezuelan Bolivar (BsF) is made up of 100 Céntimos fuertes. American Dollars are the most favoured foreign currency so you may want to have travellers’ cheques and a bit of cash in Dollars.
